A healthy home is a happy home

You’ve tackled the hard part. You sold your home, found a new one, booked your move with Westmount Moving and Warehousing and you have finally un-packed and made this new space yours. However, as Mike Holmes states, from HGTV’s “Holmes Makes It Right”, there is still more to be done. Mike Holmes is a Canadian residential home improvement contractor and television show host. Beginning with Holmes on Homes and subsequent shows, he rescues Ontario homeowners from renovations gone wrong. He continued in his successor TV series, Holmes Inspection. He is also a judge on HGTV’s show Handyman Superstar Challenge; and its American counterpart All American Handyman with McGillivray. To add to his accomplishments, Holmes posts blogs weekly on his website for “Holmes Makes It Right”.

In a recent blog, Holmes discussed home maintenance and how it is more than just chores and cleaning. In order for your new home to remain safe and healthy, you need to add routine inspections and maintenance. He calls the possible dangers ‘hidden hazards’ and can become extremely harmful if left un-checked. For example, lead. He says that if your home was built before 1978, there is a good chance it could contain lead. As well, your air filter needs to be changed to make your indoor air cleaner. If you have a leak, fix it right away to avoid mould and mildew. He mentions other things to watch out for but the most important, test for dangerous gases.
